Rules changes for waiver fiscal services
The Department of Health and Welfare has published rules that would combine the way fiscal services are provided to individuals on the A & D waiver and on the self directed option of the HCBS/DD waiver.  Public comment is currently being accepted and three public hearings were recently scheduled.  Click here for more information on these rules and hearings.

Review of the idaho state school and hospital
Under direction from the Idaho Legislature, the Department of Health and Welfare is reviewing the needs and costs of the current residents of Idaho State School and Hospital (ISSH) as well as the capacity of community-based services to develop a plan for transitioning residents from the institution.  For more information on this effort, including stakeholders involved and supplemental materials, click here.

6th Annual tools for life: secondary transition and
assistive technology fair march 1-2, 2009 in Boise, Idaho
The sixth annual Tools for Life: Secondary Transition and Technology Fair will be heldat the Doubletree Riverside Hotel in Boise, ID. Tools for Life is for anyone who has an interest in supporting individuals with disabilities as they transition from school to life and especially high school students with disabilities and their families. Throughout the two-day event, there will be presentations by regional and national experts on issues surrounding secondary transition and assistive technology. Registration Booklet

Cost Sharing for Katie Beckett
In response to legislative direction, the Division of Medicaid has drafted rules that assess premiums on families who use Katie Beckett funding for services to their children with significant disabilities.  To learn more about this issue, click here. Disability Mentoring Day Grants
Two Idaho community planning teams have been approved for funding grants for Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) projects.  The Idaho Falls Community Transition Team will receive $750 in Council funds for its DMD project that will provide transition age students from area high schools to work their dream job on October 21st.  This is the 9th annual DMD project planned and carried out by this team of community organizers.

The second $750 grant will be awarded to the Treasure Valley Disability Mentoring Day Team for its October 28th project with students at Rocky Mountain High School.  Members of the proje ct committee consisted of staff from multiple Idaho government agencies and the Meridian School District.

Person-Centered Planning Grant
The Council and its partners, the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the Idaho Person-centered Planning logoUniversity of Idaho and other organizations, are moving forward to make person-centered planning technical assistance and resources available to individuals, families and groups across Idaho. A key focus of the grant will be on unpaid informal supports that are critical to anyone with a disability living a successful life in the community. Click here for a project overview.

PCP Specialists Now Available!
Thirteen Person-Centered Planning Specialists have just completed training and are available in communities around Idaho to provide in-depth person-centered planning services to adults and transition-age youth with developmental disabilities.

IdahoHelp Website - Comprehensive Web-based Community Resource Directory IdahoHelp is a web-based clearinghouse of information and resources that we hope will help address the needs of individuals with disabilities, their families, and other informal support caregivers. 

February 2009 Updated "Moving On" - Idaho Transition Binder
"Moving On," the Idaho Transition Binder for transition-age students in Idaho schools is now available free as a download from the Idaho Training Clearinghouse website. The binder is a useful tool for students, parents, and teachers to use in planning for transition from high school to adult life. Each student adds their own information to the binder under section headings so they have all their information in one place. If you are interested in downloading the contents of the binder, go to the Idaho Training Clearinghouse website at http://itcnew.idahotc.com/DNN/ and click on "Secondary Transition" under "Learning Communities." My Voice My Choice,
the Medicaid Self-Directed Community Services option is now available. Adults with developmental disabilities who live in the Moscow,  Boise or Pocatello areas and are eligible for the Developmental Disabilities Waiver can now choose to self-direct their services through the My Voice My Choice option. For more information, call your regional Medicaid office or go to the Self-Direction website at www.healthandwelfare.idaho.gov.
