New Members Named
Governor Otter recently named three new members to the Council on Developmental Disabilities and reappointed five current members to new terms. Joni Sullivan, from Dalton Gardens, is a parent of a 20-year-old son with Down Syndrome. She is a graduate of Partners in Policymaking and fills the vacancy formerly held by Heidi Stoddard of Filer. Chris Lynch is the father of a 13-year-old daughter with disabilities. He resides in Boise and is also a Partners in Policymaking graduate and an advisory board member for the Idaho Training Cooperative. Chris replaces Debbie DePaola from Lava Hot Springs. Beth Cunningham of Boise is an employment services manager for Community Partnerships of Idaho; she replaces Kim Kane as a representative of a non-governmental organization. Reappointed were self-advocates James Steed from Pocatello and Kristyn Herbert of Boise, Co-Ad Director Jim Baugh of Boise, Department of Education representative Bill Elvey of Boise, and private agency representative Lisa Robbe of Bonners Ferry.
Thanks to all members for their service and welcome new members!

Happy 30th Birthday, Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities!
In 1978, Governor John Evans signed the Idaho DD Act into law and we have been advocating on behalf of Idahoans with developmental disabilities and their families since then. We want to hear from you and how you have been involved with the Council or one of its projects. It's not too late to share your comments, stories, etc. with us about your involvement with the Idaho DD Council. The electronic survey is simple and we would appreciate hearing from you. Click here to submit your comments and let us know how to get in touch with you.

"Moving On" - Idaho Transition Binder
"Moving On," the Idaho Transition Binder for transition-age students in Idaho schools is now available free as a download from the Idaho Training Clearinghouse website. The binder is a useful tool for students, parents, and teachers to use in planning for transition from high school to adult life. Each student adds their own information to the binder under section headings so they have all their information in one place. If you are interested in downloading the contents of the binder, go to the Idaho Training Clearinghouse website at http://idahotcnew.idahotc.com and click on "Secondary Transition" under "Learning Communities." Or, click here to download the PDF version from this website.

Act Soon to Get a Ride!
Are you a person with a developmental disability who lives in the Magic Valley?  Do you need help with transportation?  If so, you may want to contact LINC-Magic Valley and take advantage of some funds currently available.  The money can be used to help someone go to work, see a movie, visit a friend, go shopping or anything they might like to do.  The funds can be used with any of the transportation providers that LINC uses.  These transportation funds are only available through September 15.  If you or someone you know lives in Twin Falls, Kimberly, Filer, Jerome, Buhl, Shoshone, Gooding, or other towns in that area, contact Melva Heinrich at LINC at 208-733-1717 or mheinrich@lincidaho.org

Council Person-Centered Planning Grant
The Council and its partners, the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho and other organizations, are moving forward to make person-centered planning technical assistance and resources available to individuals, families and groups across Idaho. A key focus of the grant will be on unpaid informal supports that are critical to anyone with a disability living a successful life in the community. To see an Abstract of the proposal, click here. To see the announcement of all awards nationally, click here. The stakeholder group for the grant will meet the end of July to plan the "All Systems" conference that will bring together agency and organizational representatives from across the state sometime in late fall.
