Currently the Council is working on the following activities.
Direct Support Professional Training:
The Council supports efforts to recruit and retain a qualified, accessible, available
workforce of direct support staff. To assist with this, the Council provides funding
for projects and programs. In 2003, the Council contracted with the Center on
Disabilities and Human Development to survey direct support staff statewide and
produce a report of their findings.

The Council also supports opportunities for training for direct support staff
including the annual training conference sponsored by Community Partnerships of
Idaho.

Disability Mentoring Day: Disability Mentoring
Day is an annual effort of the American Association of People with Disabilities.
The purpose of DMD is to help elevate the nation's awareness of the talents and
capabilities of people with disabilities to strengthen the nation's workforce.
Through this project, local communities organize activities that bring students
and other young adults together with employers for informational sessions about
career opportunities and one-on-one mentoring with volunteers at public and private
places of employment. Each year, the Council provides funding for local communities
to implement Disability Mentoring Day activities. The 2008
application process is closed, but check back next fall for the 2009
application.
Disability Mentoring Day was October 15, 2008.

Youth Leadership Forum is a leadership, citizenship
and career development program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities.

technology, community support, career development and civil rights. They develop
personal leadership plans and commit to follow through on goals. This is also
an opportunity for successful adults with disabilities to serve as role models
and assist youth to realize their abilities, rights, and responsibilities to pursue
meaningful employment and contribute to society.
The 2009 Idaho Youth Leadership Forum is scheduled
for July 13-17 at Boise State University. Applications will be available
