Are We Swimming
in the Right Direction? This report was prepared for the Council
in 1998 by Dennis Harkin and Don Shumway and deals with strategies to move
Idaho's service system for people with developmental disabilities from one of

Direct
Support Professionals Report: In 2003, the Council contracted with
the Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development to survey direct
support staff statewide regarding such issues as recruitment, retention,
training, pay, and benefits. This document contains the findings of that study
and makes recommendations for improvement. Download report

Idaho Disability History Month:
Legislation passed in 2007 established October as Disability History Month
in Idaho. The legislation encourages schools to incorporate disability
history and awareness activities into their curriculums during the month of
October. We encourage educators to include disability awareness activities throughout the year.

Youth Development Opportunities
Keys to the Future: This Council booklet
provides a roadmap to families of children with disabilities to help them learn
more about various disabilities and developmental stages and how to navigate
the service system. The booklet also contains an attachment of disability resource
listings that is updated regularly. Please contact the

Medicaid for Workers with Disabilities: This program began January 1, 2007, and allows individuals with disabilities
to work, earn higher wages and retain Medicaid

"Moving On" Idaho Transition
Binder: A binder for transition age students in Idaho schools is now
available. The binder is a useful tool for students, parents and teachers to
use in planning for transition from high school to adult life. Download the

Project VOTE training and education initiative sponsored by the Council and others.

is Self Determination: This flyer was developed by the Council's
Task Force on Self Determination and provides an outline of the principles of
self determination and what those mean to people with developmental
